FAQ

How to arrive to the Amazon rainforest?

It is important to mention that there are three regions in the Amazon rainforest: Tena, Cuyabeno, and Coca Region (Yasuni National Park area). Find below all the information about transportation and how to get to each region and check out our eco lodges experience!

Tena is located 4 hours from Quito. In order to get to Tena, you have two options:

  • Public transportation: departing from Quitumbe bus station (south of Quito), you can purchase bus tickets directly there ($10 each way).
  • Private transfer: we will quote according to your location and the number of travelers.

Cuyabeno: All the Cuyabeno tours have their meeting point at the Cuyabeno bridge in Lago Agrio. In order to arrive in this small Amazon town, you have three options:

  • Tourist bus: This is our recommended and safest way to travel to Cuyabeno. This is an overnight shared tourist bus only for Cuyabeno tourists, departing from Quito. We are happy to make the reservation for you. Price: $22 per person each way.
  • Public transportation: departing from Quitumbe bus station (south of Quito), you can purchase bus tickets directly there ($12 each way). Please take the last bus departing around 11 p.m., so you arrive early the next morning to Lago Agrio, and then upon arrival to Lago Agrio, you have to take a taxi to the Cuyabeno Bridge (meeting point).

Coca region: Coca region is characterized for having the deepest located eco lodges of the Amazon rainforest. In order to arrive at Coca, you have two options:

  • Flight: A 45-minute flight from Quito; all flights to Coca leave in the morning, and we can make the reservation for you together with the Amazon tour. Round-trip flight price: $270 per person (average).
  • Public transportation: departing from Quitumbe bus station (south of Quito), you can purchase bus tickets directly there ($12 each way). Please take the last bus departing around 11 p.m. so you arrive early the next morning in Coca, and then upon arrival in Coca, you have to take a taxi to the eco lodge´s meeting point.

Where is the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest located?

Occupying approximately one third of Ecuador’s land area, the Amazon basin lies to the east of the Andean Highlands. Commonly referred to as the “Oriente”, this region is exceptionally rich in biodiversity of both flora and fauna. There have been established several parks and reserves, to protect the ecosystem. The three main regions to visit are Tena, Cuyabeno and Coca Region (Yasuni National Park), each offering its own unique experience. What is the weather in the Amazon rainforest?

Since we are in the equator there are only two seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season runs from December to March and the rainy season from June to November. There isn’t really such thing as a dry season in the Amazon Rainforest, but usually, it tends to rain less frequently, so we like to call them rainy and rainier.

Keep in mind that the overall climate does not vary much during the year. Most days you’ll experience some sun and some rain.

It is best to be prepared for all kinds of weather in any month because sometimes rainstorms appear out of nowhere and at night it can get chilly (especially after it rains).
