Why do I need a guide for most activities in the Galapagos islands?
The Galapagos islands belongs to a National Park system which establishes regulations in order to preserve the incredibly rich ecosystem. One of these regulations is that Visitors to any protected areas within the Galapagos National Park must be accompanied by a naturalist guide authorized by the government. All guides speak English and Spanish, if you need guides in other languages, please request to your travel advisor.
Also is important to mention that you will be able to travel only with tour operators and/or boats authorized to work in the protected areas of Galapagos. You must maintain a distance of at least six feet (two meters) from wildlife to avoid disturbing them, even if they approach you.
The Galapagos National Park marine reserve has 133 thousand square kilometers, which makes it one of the 10 largest in the world. In the ecosystem of the Marine Reserve, more than 2,900 existing species have been reported, so the Galapagos National Park system together with international organizations helps to protect the fragile ecosystem of the islands.
What's the difference between land based tours and cruises?
This is one of the most common questions regarding to the Galapagos islands tours. There are two ways to explore the islands: By cruise or in a Land based tour.
Let´s talk about the differences and advantages of each option. The Galapagos Land based tour (Island Hopping) means you will be based at hotels on the three islands to do guided daily tours. While on a cruise you will be able to explore deep islands and further destination enjoying a quality experience.
One of the main differences is that cruises have fixed dates and itineraries regulated by the Galapagos National Park. You can find 4-to-8-day cruises, and you can combine and make it longer stays if you prefer; while the Land Based tours can start any date and can be easily adapted to your own travel plans and expectations. Usually Land based programs are frequently booked by families with small kids or if you plan to explore the islands and also to have the opportunity to live up close the local life of towns.

When is the best time to visit Galápagos?
The truth is that the Galapagos is an amazing destination all year round, as they are located on the Equator and the weather does not change significantly throughout the year. Easter, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve ere the busiest weeks, so if you plan to visit the islands on those dates it is better to book at least 6 months in advance.
There are two seasons (Warm & Cool) which are relative since temperatures are always quite warm. In case you would like to see specific species to see during your Galapagos islands vacations, we are happy to recommend specific months and places with more probabilities.
